Essay 1 What my research told me about tourettes

To write my paper about tourettes I still needed to know about the motor tics, simple phonic tics and complex phonic tics

What is a tic- a tic is a invoulentary physical movement or vocal sound that occurs randomly.

Motor tics
  • Motor tics are the physical tics
  • Occur mainly in areas where many muscles are located such as the head, neck, arms, torso.
  • younger paintents with tourettes have tics motor tics with less purpose such as shoulder movements, head shakes, bladder tics, bowel tics, making faces, clicking teeth, jaw snapping, arm and leg extenstions but as the paintents get older their motor tics may delvope  more of a purpose, such as biting, bending, grooming, skin picking, or hitting, this are more rare though although often stero typed.
 Simple Phonic Tics
  • Random sounds and noises
  • Charactorized  by the amount of time the sound lasts the frequency, the intensity, and the chance of it inturpting everyday normal speech.
  • These sounds can sometimes be supressed but then the person with tourettes with often shortly after have an intense outburst
  • air sallowing, coughing, clicking, breath holding, grunting, clearning throat,  noisy breathing, spitting,  whistling,  sniffing, sniffiling, groaning, gasping, and wheezing
Complex Phonic Tics
  • Random outbursts that   are longer and more meaningful.
  • These are rare and few people with tourettes actually have complex phonic tics
  • Coprolalia Often times these are full phrases of obsenitys or vulgaritys
  • Using strange accents
  • Changing the pitch of your voice
  • Echolalia (repeating others words, or their own), meowing, quinking, spitting, yelling, gutturals,  stammering, stuttering, squealing or calling out.
  • this is the most sterotyped form of tourettes.
